Infamous alternative artist Tame Impala recently released his fifth studio album Deadbeat in October of this year and has since reached number 1 on six different charts. The album starts strong with My Old Ways, a five minute ballad featuring an incredible bass track and lyricism that mirrors the intricacy that his older albums have.

As the album continues, the songs tend to veer off Impala’s pre-established indie sound and instead incorporate more of a raw and fresh audio track, and many of the songs feel like an exploration into the bounds of the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre. Songs like Ethereal Connection and Piece of Heaven contain longer, fast-paced, techno-infused sounds. Fans have waited over five years for this new album, and for many of them Deadbeat has hit the mark. Although some listeners argue that Deadbeat is too different from his old music, others commend him for having the courage to experiment with new sounds in this album. Songs all across the album incorporate different audios such as 70’s Turkish beats, techno music, and house music, contributing to the project’s psychedelic synth-rock vibe. Whether it be the prodigious lyricism in songs like Oblivion and End of Summer, or the complex beats in songs like Afterthought and Dracula, this album has something for every listener.
