Your Favorite Toy

For a band which has seemingly flown under the radar for the past decade, The Foo Fighters manage to deliver a shockingly solid album with Your Favorite Toy. At a little over 30 minutes, Your Favorite Toy is an uptempo, noisy collection of simple but successful songs.

Although the album overall drives home a cohesive thrash vibe, one would be remiss to assume that every song follows the same formula—each brings a unique drive, from the acoustic interludes present in “If You Only Knew”, to the almost hypnotic repetition of “Window”, reminiscent of frontman (and former Nirvana drummer) Dave Grohl’s grunge classics. Even as the album starts off with a somewhat unremarkable introductory song, the last track, “Asking for a Friend”, is more than worth sticking around for.

While some listeners find the album’s heavy distortion to be too much, there is a certain charm to it: every song is presented with a kind of energy usually only found in live music that, as Grohl said, will make you “jump around and … scream.”
