Comets Capture Ninth Straight OTCA State Title

The Mason girls tennis team ended its 2025 season in a familiar place and with a familiar result. The Comets are once again Ohio Tennis Coaches Association state champions, securing their ninth consecutive team title this past weekend at the newly renovated Mason Family Tennis Center.

Since beginning their unprecedented run in 2017, Mason has remained the powerhouse of Ohio girls tennis. This year’s championship came after the Comets swept through the Upper Arlington Golden Bears in the semifinals and defeated Magnificat in the finals on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The OTCA tournament features team-based matchups consisting of three singles and two doubles courts, separate from the OHSAA individual state competition.

In the semifinal round, a rematch of the 2023 and 2024 state finals, the Comets dropped just two total games before clinching victory. Senior Addison Cassidy dominated at first singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win, while junior Emma Wagner and senior Adriana Moreno blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0, at second and third singles. With the team win already secured, doubles play was not completed.

Mason continued its dominance in the championship match, rolling past Magnificat 3-0 to claim yet another title in decisive fashion.

The victory capped off another trademark season for the Comets, who finished undefeated at 18-0 and captured their 14th straight Greater Miami Conference championship (13th outright). Mason has now gone 98-0 in GMC play and holds an astounding 201-9 overall record in regular-season matches since 2015.

Mason’s consistency extends beyond team success. The program has qualified at least one singles player or doubles team to the OHSAA State Tournament every year since 2011, reaching the state finals in either singles or doubles in each of the past six seasons. Even more impressively, the Comets have brought home a state championship, team or individual, for four consecutive postseasons.  (Editor’s Note: portions of article provided by Mason Sports Information)
