Nearly a decade after its initial film, Zootopia 2 returns to the mammal metropolis of Zootopia that audiences fell in love with in 2016.
The plot centers around a new wave of social tension affecting the different animals, and although the storyline is slightly more predictable than the first film, the evolution of the city and the introduction of new characters keep the narrative moving.
Visually, Disney’s animations are stunning. The film itself feels visually immersive, oftentimes much more than the plot itself. The soundtrack is upbeat and well-placed, although the absence of iconic track “Try Everything,” sung by Shakira’s Gazelle cameo, left a hole, even after it was replaced by its spiritual successor “Zoo.”
While the sequel doesn’t quite reach the originality of the first movie, it delivers both heart and charm; fans of the original will leave feeling satisfied and entertained.
