COMET ZONE’S STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: NOVEMBER 2022, SHyla Aggarwal

Shyla Aggarwal

Shyla Aggarwal capped off her historic Mason athletic career with a second consecutive individual state championship. Aggarwal is the only girl in Mason tennis history to have won an individual title and leaves a legacy as one of the greatest Comet athletes ever.

Aggarwal, who was also state runner-up as a sophomore, became a back-to-back state champion by defeating North Canton Hoover’s Tess Bucher in two sets (6-2, 6-1). Bucher was a familiar opponent for Aggarwal, as the two faced off in last year’s state semi-final match.

In addition to her postseason success, Aggarwal had one of the most dominant regular seasons careers in Mason. Last season she won all 26 of her games and went 30-0 this year. Agrawal has won numerous honors including being named Cincinnati Divison one player of the year and all-Ohio, she was also nominated for the Al-USA Today’s High School Sports Awards nationals girls tennis player of the year.

In the team state championship match, Aggarwal served as the Comets’ first singles player. She won both of her matches in two sets, leading Mason to their sixth consecutive team title. Aggarwal wraps up her high school career as a four-time team champion and two-time state champion.

Aggarwal will continue her career playing division one tennis at Yale University next year.
