Chronicle All Stars – Winter 2022
At the conclusion of each sports season, the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) selects All-Conference teams for each individual sport based on athlete’s season performances. The Chronicle, however, has determined our winter sports selections for an All-Chronicle team.
Fall Sports Coach of the Year: Rob Matula | Girls Basketball
Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Rob Matula led his Comets to a state runner-up finish for the second time in his career. Season achievements included winning his 400th career game in the state semifinals and snapping Mount Notre Dame’s 98 game win streak in the regional finals.
Kyla Oldacre | Girls Basketball
Kyla Oldacre was never out of the spotlight this season as she was named a McDonald’s All-American, the third selection in school history. Oldacre led the Comets to a state runner-up and had 21 points and 20 rebounds in the semifinal game. As the sole senior, she was counted on for her leadership all season.
Carl Bloebaum | Boys Swimming
Senior Carl Bloebaum finished his illustrious Comet career by winning the individual state title in the 100 Fly, setting both a state and pool record with a time of 45.68 after being out-touched in his preliminary race. He also was named Division One swimmer of the meet at the state meet and GMC swimmer of the year.
Madie Parrish | Girls Basketball
Freshman Madie Parrish burst onto the scene in her first year, starting in 28 of 30 games and being named to the GMC first team. Averaging 11 points, 2 steals and 3 assists per game, Parrish was a key piece of Mason’s trip to the state championship game this season.
Skylar Horn | Boys Wrestling
Skyler Horn became a two-time state qualifier after placing 4th at the District Qualifier. Horn also went 28-4 in the regular season with 20 pins, best in his weight class and 3rd among all GMC wrestlers tournament. Horn now becomes our first two-tie Chronicle All-Star after making it in the fall for football.
Langly Peterson | Girls Diving
Junior Langley Peterson plunged into a personal record of 442.25 in the Division one, one meter category at the OHSAA Diving DIstricts, placing sixth overall. She managed to beat her past record of 439.65 points and earned a spot onto the State Championship podium.
Aiden Hunt | Boys Bowling
Junior Aiden Hunt emerged as the leader of the co-GMC champion boys bowling team, holding the highest average on the team with 216.8 pins per game. His high score of 289 was the third-best amongst the GMC. Hunt also placed 43rd overall at the state tournament.
Ogden Nijakowski | Boys Bowling
Junior Ogden Nijakowski became an underlying leader for the boy’s bowling team this season, with an average of 212.2 and helped lead his team to the State Championship. His skill as an anchor carried the Comets through the Sectional and District tournaments as well.
Max Plumley | Boys Swimming
Junior Max Plumley capped off his season with a seventh place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at state, while getting a personal best in the relay he swam in for his team with a time of 45.97. Plumley on his progression through the tournament also became a GMC champion, too second at sectionals, and fifth at districts.
Kaitlyn Weitz | Girls Swimming
Sophomore Kaitlyn Weitz made her name known this season in making several appearances in critical relays and individual events. Finishing as a second place finisher at GMC’s, Weitz continued to place as Mason’s top finisher in the 100 yard butterfly at the Sectionals, Districts, and State Championships.
